Pierce Hederman is one of Ireland’s most
exciting new science fiction writers.
His first novel, Servant of the Empire, introduces the reader to the burgeoning career of Ensign David Stone of the Imperial Military. The book is set in an alternate galaxy where humans thrive but have no notion of Earth. The practicalities and challenges of soldiering remain however. Against this back drop our protagonist is locked in a tense and politically cut throat environment that has been further complicated by the appearance of a new and unknown power. An orphan from a prisoner colony, Stone has little time for intrigue as he claws his way to a better life. As an author, Hederman brings this gripping story to life in amazing detail from Stone’s first day at the Imperial Stellar Combat Academy to facing his fears in a deadly cat and mouse game across a vast space station.
About the author
Pierce Hederman has spent his life writing but only recently took the leap into publishing his work. He has always had a love for science fiction and historical fiction, taking inspiration from authors such as Bernard Cornwell, John Scalzi and Ursula Le Guin. While his stories are set in fictional worlds, they are very much grounded in human interest. In Servant of the Empire, Pierce leans heavily on his 15 years of experience of rising through the ranks of the Irish Reserve Defence Forces as a private, non-commissioned officer and 2nd Lieutenant.
